Secondary Teacher of the Year- 2005

Diane Lichtenberg

From left to right: Dr. Carol Phillips (2005 president, IAHPERD), Diane Lichtenberg (Secondary Teacher of the Year)

Ms. Diane Lichtenberg’s professional image is impeccable.  She is extremely bright, hard-working, articulate, self-motivated, and without a doubt, dedicated to serving the children and school which she services.  Because of her compassion and genuine interest in her students, Dian is well respected by both their parent and her colleagues.

As an instructional leader, she knows what quality teaching and learning is.  She is able to analyze problems, develop appropriate action plans for diverse learners, and always seems to get the job done.  She makes learning meaningful for students and provides opportunities for all students to be successful.  She seeks each student out individually, understands them and their varied environments, game plans for their success, and then goes to work to ensure their growth and success towards an active and healthy adult life.  Diane takes full responsibility for the learning that takes place in her classroom.  She understands that the responsibility of student learning in her classroom begins and ends with her.

Diane is also active in school improvement efforts.  As chair of the PE department and a team leader on our school improvement Team, she has been instrumental in leading our faculty forward in school reform issues.

She has taken a leadership role, devoting countless hours to the training, planning, evaluation and implementation of best teaching practices into the PE curriculum.  She is always collecting and analyzing student data to drive change in the way we deliver instruction and assess the learning experiences of our students, and collaborating with her colleagues to encourage teamwork and ensure accountability.

Beyond her expectations for student’s achievement in all aspects of physical education, she clearly enjoys doing what she does and that attitude carries over to the students.  She leads by example and demonstrates the personal habits that reinforce her commitment to the lifestyle, programs and the opportunity fitness represents.

Ladies and Gentlemen is gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the 2006 Secondary Teacher of the Year….Diane Lichtenberg
