When one speaks of Hal Garwood and JRFH--you usually hear of Jim Patterson. Because when one speaks of Jim Patterson and JRFH --you usually hear of Hal Garwood. It is only fitting to honor these two great men together with the Honor Award. Jim and Hall have been co-chairs for the past 8 or 9 years. During that time JRFH has grown from about a $300,000 event to over $1,300,000. They upgraded their own jump team to make a positive impact locally and state wide. They attended conferences at the national level and begged for activities and prizes they knew would have an impact on Iowa. They have put the Iowa Skippers in front of large audiences at Iowa, Iowa State, and the Girls State Basketball tournaments. They have had several articles published in the national JRFH newsletter the past three years. The most recent one was this past month.
Jim and Hal have both recently retired from the CR community schools after working as elementary physical education teachers. They both always went the extra mile to make things better and memorable for the students. Think of the 1,000ís of students that they have touched throughout their career and the many lives that they have touched.
It is because of men like them, so dedicated to our profession, so willing to go the extra mile,, so willing to put children first, that makes me so proud to say I am an educator.
IAHPERD gives the HONOR AWARD to IAHPERD members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of health, physical education, recreation, or dance. in the state of Iowa. Please join me in honoring two of the finest men IAHPERD has had as members. Jim Patterson and Hal Garwood
